The
Canada Counsil for the Arts is Canada’s national – and largest – arts fund. Their ‘Visual Arts’ section is meant for supporting creation, production and dissemination in the field of photography and the visual arts, as well as for the acquisition of works by Canadian artists. In addition to funding the activities of independent artists, museums, artist-run centres and other professional arts organizations, the Council encourages the work of independent critics and curators, and the work of performance artists whose practice is rooted in the critical discourse of the visual arts. Each specific grant has its own program officer for further information. The program officer for the Visual Arts Section is Geneviève Landreville, telephone ext. 5109. For Canadian artists only.
What might be interesting to foreigners is the Visiting Foreign Artists Program, where Canadian institutions can invite foreign artists of outstanding achievement. If you’re looking to go abroad, that might help to get your expenses paid.
Canada has several local and regional arts funds like the
Toronto Arts Counsil and the
Ontario Arts Counsil.
Robert Sirman is at the head of the counsil.
