Nadaar Photographers is a photographers’ collective based in Brussels, specialising in contemporary documentary photography, photojournalism and reportage. Among its five members are Tim Dirven and Nick Hannes, known for their work for Belgian newspaper De Morgen.
The collective was named after ‘homo universalis’ Nadar, who in 1864 took pictures of Brussels from a hot-air balloon. Mobile barriers had to be erected to keep the crowds at a safe distance. Since then, these barriers are known in Belgium as ‘nadaars’. Nowadays they are often used to keep photographers at a safe distance
