Noorderlicht is a multifaceted and international podium for documentary photography in Groningen, a northern province of The Netherlands. It is a place for photographers who explore the world, picturing its big events, its everyday occurrences and everything in between. All genres of photography are featured in the program, with documentary photography as the basis.

Noorderlicht pays attention to photography of the world and the world of photography. It does so by organizing an annual photo festival, by programming exhibitions in the photogallery, by issuing specific photography commissions and by sponsoring activities to broaden understanding, skills and appreciation of photography, such as discussions, lectures and master classes. Noorderlicht also supports an educational program and publishes high quality photo books and catalogues. The exhibitions travel around the world and have been seen in galleries and museums, and on festivals in Europe and the United States, Syria, Australia and Indonesia.
