The Tošo Dabac Archive contains the complete works of Tošo Dabac, comprising almost 200.000 negatives, some 2000 vintage master prints, valuable photographic equipment and a library.
Tošo Dabac is considered one of the most important Croatian photographers of the 20th century. He has won numerous awards and has had a great influence on Croatian photography. Its artistic importance aside, the photographic collection of Tošo Dabac also has a huge documentary value because it bears witness to the history of the city of Zagreb and Croatia. It includes various motifs: from portraits, art works, monuments and urban life to landscapes and folklore. After Tošo’s death in 1970, the Atelier was maintained by his nephew and heir Petar Dabac. He was a renowned photographer himself, and in 1980 he established a gallery where he organised exhibitions and workshops. The collection is open to Croatian as well as international experts .
The archive was acquired by the city of Zagreb and is managed by the
Museum of Contemporary Art.
