Annually the Alexia Foundation for World Peace awards a $15.000 grant to a professional photographer, and several scholarships to students of photojournalism. The jury chooses a photojournalist who conveys 'further cultural understanding and world peace' through their work.
The AF was founded in 1991 by the parents of Alexia Tsairis, a victim of the 1988 Lockerbie plane crash. She was a photojournalism student at Syracuse University.
Extra information: The deadline is around January 15th. Occasionally, AF awards an additional, $7.500 special recognition grant to a professional photographer.
Director of the foundation is David Sutherland. He is professor of photojournalism at Syracuse University.
