Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is an international biennial of contemporary photography. Since its first presentation in 1989 (organized by
VOX,research institute and laboratory for contemporary art), Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal furthered the approach begun by the previous organizers and adopted a more rigorous artistic direction.
For each event all the exhibitions, the publication, the colloquium and the other activities (publication, educational activities, artists’ talks, and colloquium) are organized around a theme proposed by a guest curator. Calls for submission are announced in the year prior to the event
During each of its presentations, Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal organizes an international colloquium that offers an in-depth reflection on theoretical issues in current photographic practice. This conference of worldwide scope brings together artists, art historians, critics, curators, and a large contingent of academics, students, and the general public. The colloquium is free of charge and simultaneous translation is available.
Director of the festival is Chuck Samuels (
