The Art Pavilion in Zagreb was built in 1898 and has hosted many Croatian and international artists since. It is the oldest exhibition hall in the Slavic south and the building alone makes it worth a visit.
With every exhibition, especially the retrospectives and thematic exhibitions, a comprehensive catalogue is published. Some of these catalogues have become compulsory textbooks for art history students at Zagreb University.
The program consists of contemporary art exhibitions; photography is inevitably part of that. However, the state doesn't have enough resources to stimulate the genre and the (documentary) photography scene in Croatia therefore isn’t big.
