The Zacheta National Gallery of Art focuses on contemporary art and organizes a wide range of activities. The Gallery has a library and a documentation department which are open to the public. It publishes about 20 catalogues each year, which are available in the artistic bookshop. The collection is available for loans to temporary exhibitions in Poland or overseas.
The collection of Zachęta National Gallery contains almost 200 photographs, including documentary works by Eustachy Kossakowski and Leonard Sempoliński (in deposit). There are also photographic artworks made by Polish and foreign artists like Zbigniew Dłubak, Mikołaj Smoczyński, Zofia Kulik, Zbigniew Libera and Erika Kiffl.
An important part of the Documentation Department is an archive of photography. It contains unique photos from the openings and exhibitions that took place in Zacheta from 1950 until now.
The museum's director is Agnieszka Morawińska.
Karolina Lewandowska was their Curator of Photography until april 2010. Zacheta will most likely not employ a new curator especially for photography. Lewandowska will concentrate on the
Archeology of Photography Foundation which she is directing.
