‘Lang zal ze leven’ is een onconventionele publicatie van een sociaal project van Anouk Kruithof, dat zij tijdens haar verblijf in de kunstenaarsresidentie ‘Het Vijfde Seizoen’ op het terrein van de psychiatrische instelling Altrecht in Den Dolder in 2011 heeft ontwikkeld. Kruithof heeft 10 patiënten geïnterviewd over hun verjaardagswensen en deze volgens die verlangens met en voor hen gevierd. De één vroeg om een groot feest met live optreden en toast met haring en jus d’orange voor alle genodigden, de ander wilde naar Utrecht om een verjaardag joint te roken. Bij iedere bewoner informeerde Anouk naar de lievelingskleur en kreeg de jarige een fototaart met een portret van zichzelf erop. Het aansnijden en opeten van ‘je eigen gezicht’ zorgde altijd voor een vrolijk tafereel.
Lang zal ze leven bestaat zowel uit quotes van de interviews als foto’s van handgemaakte driedimensionale sets waarin de documentatiefoto’s van de verjaardagen als kleine exposities zijn te zien. De publicatie geeft een chronologisch overzicht van hoe de tien verjaardagen zijn gevierd en toont de integere wijze waarop is samengewerkt met mensen met psychiatrische beperkingen. Op deze tentoonstelling is de verjaardag van Frits de Beer (64) te zien.

Happy birthday to you is an unconventional publication about a social project by Anouk Kruithof, which she undertook during her stay at the artistic residence ‘Het Vijfde Seizoen’ at the Altrecht psychiatric unit in Den Dolder in 2011. Kruithof interviewed 10 patients about their birthday wishes and then celebrated it with and for them according to these wishes. ‘One of them wanted a big party with live performances and herring on toast with fresh orange juice for all guests, the next wanted to go to Utrecht to smoke a birthday joint.’ Anouk asked each patient for their favourite colour, and they all got a cake adorned with their portrait photograph. Anouk did this deliberately, because cutting and eating ‘your own face’ always puts people as ease. The publication consists of both quotes from the interviews as well as photos of hand-made 3D sets in which the documentary photographs of the birthdays are displayed as small exhibitions. The publication offers a chronological overview of how the 10 birthdays were celebrated and of the honest collaboration with people with a psychiatric condition. This exhibition features the birthday of Frits de Beer (64).
